I think one of the things that is not really talked about when it comes to laser hair removal is laser and tattoos. I myself do have tattoos four to be exact and I know firsthand how uncomfortable and painful it is for a laser to hit a tattoo. Now just a brief explanation of why tattoos and laser hair removal don’t work together. Laser hair removal works by the laser killing the hair follicle at its root. Now laser in its simplicity is attracted to colour, so if there’s colour in the hair follicle, the laser will be able to catch it. With that logic in mind, it does make sense that if you have a tattoo and a laser that’s intended for hair removal hits it, it’s going to destroy the tattoo and your skin at the same time.
Again, having a close encounter with a Laser hitting my tattoo, I can say with absolute confidence that it is extremely painful. I would not wish that on anybody. Now it’s not to say that we can’t do laser hair removal with someone who has tattoos because it definitely can be done. The only thing is that we have to work around the tattoo and it’s usually about half an inch away from the outline of the tattoo. You may see some hairs around the tattoo because don’t forget, even though we’re targeting a specific area, heat from the laser does travel so it can expand a little bit, which is why we don’t go super close to the tattoo. But don’t worry your Aestie Bestie has your back. I also provide electrolysis treatments and electrolysis can work around tattoos not only work around them, I can actually work on them too. It doesn’t impact the tattoo and won’t ruin it at all.
In my time of being a medical aesthetician and providing laser hair removal treatments. I’ve seen my fair share of clients who have expressed that they want to get tattoos and I always tell them please always do laser hair removal first before you decide to get a tattoo in which ever area. Because trust me, it’s so much easier to get the tattoo done and way less maintenance to have it clean, clear of hair and just to be able to appreciate the tattoo that you get. I do know some people who have expressed that they want to get rid of the tattoos and they say ‘oh just hit it with the laser’ first, that’ll be very painful and second lasers that are intended for hair removal cannot remove tattoos.

You’re going to say ‘hey, wait a minute, I thought there is a laser that removes tattoos’ and you would be right. The thing is, the laser that I have specifically is intended for hair removal, skin tightening and pigment reduction (pigment reduction not from tattoos) The laser that is intended for tattoos is a completely different system and a completely different type of laser than hair removal. I hope that makes a little bit more sense. I hope that this provides clarification when it comes to laser hair removal and tattoos. If you do have any more questions, please feel free to reach out if you do have a tattoo that you want to get rid of and you’re looking for a reputable place that has the right system, please reach out and I will definitely direct you to the right place. Thank you for reading. I appreciate and love you all.
